I'm looking forward to getting involved in my future college community -- learning and growing not only through sports, but also academics, clubs, activities, and meeting new people. My sister is a student soccer athlete at her university, and she has not only made great relationships with her teammates, but she's friends with students from all over the world, student athletes in different sports, and they all support one another. This experience has helped her think about the person she wants to become and the positive impact she hopes to make in the world. She is a mentor for me and I look up to her a lot.
As I move from my high school experience to college, I hope to continue to be a positive influence. My high school Physics teacher has always encouraged me not only by recognizing and growing my talents academically, but seeing me as a good person. I have a positive effect on my classmates through inclusion, curiosity, kindness, participation, and accountability. I want to keep growing as a whole person and bring out my best, as well as bring out the best in those around me.
This carries over for me on the soccer field, as well. One of my strongest attributes as a player is that I care more about the whole than just my own experience. I care deeply about anything and anyone I'm involved with and this shows up with heart and hard work. My coaches have given me feedback that I am a strategic player and look to make the play for the team, not just myself. I continuously work on my skills, and am strong and agile with both my L and R foot. I can swing from striker to wing to mid - whatever the team might need, based on who we're playing. It's less about the position I'm playing, and more about how we play as a whole. I'm also committed to my overall health as an athlete. Nutrition, hydration, strength training, conditioning, rest, and relationships are all important parts of my everyday life.
I love the game of soccer - I have since playing as a kid and my 3v3 team won the silver Worlds division at Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney. This was the type of dream experience that instilled early passion and fun within the game that lives on for me today. I'm excited for the opportunity to continue this dream as part of my college experience.
