Hi my name is Connor Hughes I am 17 years old, 6 ft 1, 185Ibs and class of 2025. When I was younger, my Dad always wanted me to play a lot of sports to see what I may enjoy. I tried basketball, baseball, lacrosse and more but the only sport that I stayed with is soccer.
I started playing soccer at for AYSO when I was 5 years old. One day I saw the first goalkeeper play and I thought it was amazing. When I started to play Trumbull travel soccer at 6 years old, my coach needed a keeper and I was the first person to volunteer to go in the net. I fell in love with the position and never looked back.
Since that time, I have trained with private goalie coaches in addition to my regular team training. At the age of 10, I moved from travel into a premiere soccer club, Inter Connecticut FC, playing on their NAC team. Spring season of 24 I was invited to play for the ECNL RL team via a partnership with AC Connecticut and also played in the Foyle Cup in Derry Ireland. In Spring 2024, I led my team to victory winning the state cup for U17 and we qualified for the regionals in West Virginia.
In the Fall, I play soccer for Trumbull Highschool. As a Freshman, I made the JV team and in my Sophmore year was the starting goalie for the Varsity team. That year the varsity team won the 22/23 FCIAC conference and I was awarded MVP of the championship game for my performance in goal. For the 23/24 season, we won the conference championship for a second time and I was named all conference second team. In the Spring of my Freshman and Sophmore years, I also played on the Trumbull JV Volleyball team, which provided great cross training for me while I was playing club soccer in the Spring.
Outside of soccer, I like to spend time with my friends and family. I give back to the community by volunteering at a non for profit camp during the summer and also work part time as a lifeguard and golf caddy. I also enjoy biking and meeting my friends for a spontaneous pick-up game of soccer.
My goal is to play soccer at the collegiate level and I am open to any college from D1-3. It is important that the school is a good fit for me athletically and academically. What separates me from any other keeper is what I am willing to do for my team and the amount of work I put in to improve my skills. I am often asked by the club coaches to cover games for the older age groups and I always take the opportunity to play additional games to gain more experience in the net. I help my teammates when it’s needed and most importantly passionate about the sport. I won’t give up till I reach my goal!
