My name is Brandon Bloebaum and I live in Ames, Iowa. I am a junior at Gilbert High School. I play club soccer for Vision Soccer Academy in Waukee, Iowa. I was adopted from Guatemala when I was very young. My mother is a professor of aerospace engineering and I have grown up around universities and academic environments. We have moved a few times because of my mother’s job. I lived in Buffalo, New York until 2009, then moved to the DC area in Arlington, Virginia. We moved to Iowa in 2012. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA so far, even while taking advanced classes. I am in AP Calculus, College English, and have taken other college courses in the past.
Soccer is a big part of my life and contributes a lot to who I am. Due to my mother’s job and the places we’ve lived, I’ve had many unique experiences throughout my soccer career. I’ve met many people who have influenced me greatly. They include coaches, friends, and teammates. I became interested in soccer when I was very young, and from then on The Game has helped me grow as a player and a person. I tried out for and made the Arlington Travel premiere soccer team for both U9 and U10 seasons. We then moved to Iowa where I played for Ames Soccer Club for two years before going to Iowa Rush. After 3 years at Rush, I have chosen to play at Vision Soccer Academy (VSA). I have always been a starter for my club teams and was even a starter for my high school team as a freshman. Finally, I am a part of the Iowa ODP where I have been able to play at multiple showcases around the country. I have always enjoyed competitive environments and thrive where I can play with high level players.
My goal for my soccer career is to play at the best level I can for as long as I can. Even after all these years, I am still passionate about the beautiful game. I love to play it, watch it, and referee. I intend to play at the highest level I can in college while majoring in business. By playing soccer, I’ve learned how to be a leader of a team, the value of hard work, and how to play and make decisions under pressure. I’m very coachable as a player and am always trying to get better on and off the field. I believe I would be able to achieve a lot in the classroom and on the field for a college program.
