I come from a school with a outstanding sports program and history. As a Pella native, I am proud of the legacy Pella has etched in my region. For me, it is an honor playing on the Pella Varsity Men's Soccer Team and the Pella Club Soccer team. I have played soccer since third grade, and have always played midfield. Simply put, I love the game. Creating a structured team attacking and defending as one unit and gracefully finishing keeps me on the field. Although the adrenaline rush of scoring is exhilarating, my main objective is to organize a structured attack with unpredictable methods (sometimes wall passes, long across the field balls, through balls, etc.). Delivering a combination of penetrating passes is the most satisfying experience. My belief is that brute force may provide temporary success, but smart playing is the key to victory.
One of my most effective tactics I have is holding the ball to suck the opposing defenders towards me. As defenders focus their attention on me, pockets of opportunity open up for other teammates. To open up a pass and time an effective pass is vital for a goal, and I will continuously strive to further enhance this ability. Although I enjoy the physical and competitive aspects of this sport, group chemistry is the driving factor for me. To grow and mature with a group of peers with such similar interests and to win a match because of this telepathic communication/passing we have developed is a fantastic feeling.
As I focus my attention towards my collegiate studies, I sincerely hope to continue soccer in the next four years. My first and foremost consideration is the engineering department of each institution. In my high school years, I have taken the most competitive course offerings at my high school, and have aquired more than 50 college credits from surrounding colleges. I am looking for a higher institution that can provide the education drive needed for a successful future. Thus, I explore colleges and universities with the best education offered without considerable regards to division, location, population, ect. I seek to engage in competitive studies and competitive athletics at the collegiate level.
In my high school years, I have been a part of numerous extra curricular actitivites, including varsity debate, piano, violin, marching band, science/knowledge bowl, mock trial, National History Day, and etc. I am accustomed to the workload of these activities. As I begin my collegiate studies, soccer is on the forefront of activities I seek to partake in. I understand the level of commitment needed for a successful athletic season, and I am fully prepared to meet that commitment.
