I can’t remember a time where I wasn’t playing soccer. I joined my town league at age three and immediately fell in love with the game. That’s why being out for my eight-grade season, due to injury, was both physically and emotionally taxing. Although I wish I had that extra season under my belt, this time off the field not only reminded me how important the game is to me, but made me realize that it requires more than physical skill. As I spent games sitting on the sidelines, I gained tactical skills which enabled me to better read the field, make on-my-toes plays, and be a decisive player for my team. This injury was almost a gift, returning me to my team as a smarter, yet physically weaker, player.
Getting back in the game, I was determined like never before. The physical catching up I had to do lit a fire underneath me in all aspects of my life. I was focused on being the best player, teammate, and student I could be. I was in a personal competition with my best self every single day, and it paid off. I saw my hard work come to fruition both on and off the field throughout my freshman year. I was honored with the title of MVP, received high-honors within all my classes, and was selected by peers and faculty as class vice president. This success only pushed me further and widened my goals and aspirations.
I am eager to continue developing my academic, athletic, and leadership skills throughout university and am looking for a school that will both foster and challenge me in these areas. I know that I would be a great addition to any team, classroom, and campus, and am excited about the potential of joining yours.
