I am very fortunate for the many great experiences I’ve had on the soccer field, as soccer is a very important part of my life. I have gotten to see my high school soccer program advance from division 2 to division 1, the highlight being that our team placed third in the conference my Junior year. In addition to playing for my high school team, I have also been lucky enough to be able to get great coaching from my club team, Seacoast United, for the past 8 years.
Last summer, Seacoast gave me the opportunity to train with professionals from England, when I made a trip with my team and played soccer for 10 days. As well as this, SUSC NPL 03 won the NH State Cup, bringing my team to the National Cup in Colorado. This in addition to other collegiate camps and traveling the country for tournaments, which have all helped me to grow as a person and as an athlete.
My education is also extremely important to me. I have been in mainly honors and AP classes throughout high school and being inducted to the French Honor Society my Sophomore year. I'm looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically, as well as academically. I have finished my junior year with a 3.79 weighted GPA.
One unique skill I believe I possess is the ability to spread my high energy and intensity to myself and other players, especially when playing at a competitive level. I act as a leader on the field, as when playing in a center-mid position it forces players to understand how to communicate and operate as a team.
On a very personal note, my father passed away from brain cancer my freshman year along with my mother beating breast cancer in my 7th grade year. To put it simply, I feel I have had to go through a lot at a young age. From these experiences, I believe it has made me a stronger version of my previous self. Additionally, I believe that my characteristics on and off the field will make me a necessary asset to a fitting collegiate team!
Thank you for your time,
Matt Kearney
