Jake McGovern '20 Recruiting Profile

My name is Jake McGovern and i’m currently a goalkeeper at St. Mary High School in Rutherford, NJ. I have been playing soccer since I was 6 and have fallen in love with it ever since. After games, I usually receive compliments from referees and even opposing coaches about my competitive nature and if any colleges are interested in me. When given the opportunity, I do my best to give my team an extra boost of energy and motivation. I always take pride in being a good leader,teammate,and player on and off the field. I understand that the goalkeeper position comes with great responsibility and pressure, but I believe I am perfectly fit for the job.

Going into my Senior season, I have been named captain for the second straight year. I have been a 4-year varsity starter (freshmen year cut short due to broken wrist) and have won team MVP, League All-Star, and All-League Honorable Mention honors. In school, I have received second honors in every semester of my Junior year and have always been known by teachers as a respectable and good student. In school and in soccer, I’m the type of player/person that will always persevere no matter what the circumstances are. To whoever is willing to give me the opportunity, I will promise to give 100% on the field and in the classroom.
