Gabriel Hawkins '23 Recruiting Profile

I have played soccer since I was 4 years old and played competitive soccer beginning at age 9. I am always looking to play with or against the highest level of competition that I can. Whether I'm playing with my club team or playing in my backyard, I always try to train as intensely as I can. I train at the soccer field nearly every day of the week, and when I’m not there, I’m in the gym working out. Whenever I train on my own, I always focus on training the weaknesses that I have so I can become the most well-rounded player that I can be.

When I am not playing soccer I am working hard academically. I’m on track to graduate high school with having nearly enough college credits for an associates degree. I maintain a balanced schedule during the week, making sure I have time for school, soccer, the gym, and free time for other things like spending time with my friends and family.

On the field, I am a well-composed player. I am always looking to break lines and to switch the point of attack to create attacking opportunities for my team. My style-of-play is unselfish, and team-oriented. Even though my offensive focus is to create the best opportunities for my team to score, I also know how and when to take my own opportunities. I’ve always been moved around positions so I have a good understanding of how to play in every place on the field. This also helps me be tactically aware of where somebody might want the ball played to them during an offensive attack.

As a freshman I went to Barcelona to train with coaches from the Barcelona Academy. I was put on a team of other US players and some Spaniard teens. We played friendlies against other clubs in the Barcelona area. During my junior year I again got an opportunity to travel abroad to train and play soccer, this time in England. I trained with coaches from the West Ham and Manchester City Academies and was again on a team of other US teen players playing friendlies against clubs in the London and Manchester area. Our team scored 5 goals across all our friendlies. I had 2 of those goals and 1 assist.
