My name is Ellis Henderson. I am currently in the 11th grade at the Collegiate School in Richmond, Va. I play varsity outdoor soccer in the fall and varsity indoor soccer in the winter. I started playing soccer in the 3rd grade and started playing club soccer in the 9th grade. I have a high soccer IQ, I am athletic, and an excellent defensive player because I can use my height to win headers and stop the offense. But I know I have not yet become the best soccer player I can be.
I do not currently play for any club team but I do plan on returning to club sports my senior year. I used to play for the FC Richmond U17 Metro team my 10th grade year and played Kickers U15 my 9th grade year. While I played for FC Richmond I was voted to be one of the captains to lead the team and finished the season with 6 goals and 10 assists. I decide to play JV soccer my 9th and 10th grade year so that I could find a balance in soccer and my academics. My goal is to attend college and play soccer. While I am not the best player, I am coachable and I am looking forward to growing to play at the college level. I'm not intimidated by any challenge and do not crack under pressure. Unlike some prospective players I have not reached my peak and will have time to learn and improve my skill set. Though I'm not on the radar of many colleges this doesn't mean I can not potentially be a great soccer player.
I finished my freshman year with a 2.5 GPA (unweighted) and kept the same GPA my sophomore year. I know that academics come first now and have gotten back to bringing my GPA up so that I have more options when it comes time for me to choose colleges. I take Spanish 3 and plan on being fluent in Spanish by the time I leave Collegiate. Students at Collegiate are required to do 15 community service hours to give back to the community. I do not see this as a requirement and am glad to give back to my community. I am currently a member of RAMPS, a non-profit that builds ramps to help out handicapped people around Richmond, and RVAccess, a group that plays soccer on the weekends with children that have autism.
I have always wanted to play soccer at a more advance level and hope to continue playing at the next level. As my senior year gets closer I am working hard to show that I am academically and athletically prepared for college and to take the next step in my sports career. I hope to attend a strong academic school with a stellar soccer program. Other than that, I am welcome and happy to attend any school.
