- 2022 Spotlight
Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Wesley Wise and I am in the class of 2023. I have played soccer throughout my entire life. I started playing when I was five years old and instantly fell in love with the sport.
I would like to play soccer at the collegiate level. I believe that my dedication, hard work, and talent will help me compete at the next stage. I work extremely hard on the field and just as hard in the classroom. My goal is to push myself to become a better soccer player so I can contribute to a team at the collegiate level. During my sophomore and junior years, I was able to earn a starting spot on my high school team, a team that leads VISAA Division I schools for championship appearances in the last 20 years. For my high school team, I was able to contribute 14 goals in 18 games (11 goals and 3 assists). My high school team lost in the VISAA division 1 semifinals 1-0 to a team that was ranked number #22 in the country. Additionally, I was selected to be a captain for my high school team next year for the 2022 fall season. My club team earned a chance to compete in the ECNL nationals in San Diego this upcoming June. I use my size and speed as a forward to help contribute on the attack whether I take the ball in and cross it on the goaline (endline), or whether I am playing back to goal and am able to turn and get a shot off quickly.
In the classroom I have been able to maintain an "A" average and a 3.9 weighted GPA this first semester of my junior year. My cumulative GPA through my first 3 semesters of high school is a 3.95. I took certain classes throughout the summer in order to create time to play club and high school soccer while maintaining good grades.
One of the strongest aspects of my game is my ability to head the ball with precision and power, especially off crosses and corner kicks. I can flick on the ball and direct it, especially off of goal kicks and long throws. I can adapt to changes the defense makes and read key situations very well. I always try to bring my teammates up rather than bring them down and I am always positive on the field.
