I have been swimming competitively since my junior year when I transitioned from water polo to swimming because of my speed. Unlike many of the other swimmers here, I have not been a swimmer “all my life.” Some call me a late bloomer. I see this as an advantage because, as a senior, I am still enthusiastic and highly motivated to put my all into swimming. Although I don’t look forward to jumping into the cold pool in the early mornings, I do feel good after a hard training session and I can see the progress I’m making.
Since joining Santa Barbara Swim Club, I have made big changes in my swim routine. I have become a far better freestyle swimmer and am constantly improving my form in breaststroke and backstroke. I have made many friends on the team and have learned lessons in humility, tenacity, and self-discipline. Probably my biggest lesson has been that I can always do more. I am very ambitious and understand that anything is possible so long as I put in the effort.
My other hobbies include boy scouts, working out, hiking, and connecting with friends. I have been a boy scout for the last five years and am currently working on my Eagle project with the aim of attaining Eagle rank before the end of this year. It is my goal to get a four-year degree in business and finance. I want to become a successful businessman like my dad.
I am optimistic for my years ahead as a college student and a swimmer. I navigated a difficult period in middle school overcoming ADHD and being the recipient of unkind bullying. I really believe this has helped me to attain greater strength of character. I would love to swim competitively for a university and I am willing to put in the time and the effort and anything else necessary to reach that goal.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
