As a kid, I tried every team sport and individual sport available in my local recreation district and some club programs. None of those sports captured my interest and sparked my passion like swimming. Swimming hasn't always come easy but my love of the sport keeps me motivated and working hard. This past summer, my coach and I worked on each aspect of my butterfly stroke. At the beginning of the season, I'd started adding time instead of continuing to take time off. By going to every practice, drilling the technique changes, working on increasing the tempo of my stroke, and putting it all into practice during meets, I was able to realize best times by the end of the summer. This summer was also the summer before I aged up to the senior level groups. I needed to meet certain practice targets and attendance to achieve the goal of the top senior group. Again, going to every practice, listening to my coach's advice, and pushing myself beyond what I thought was possible, allowed me to meet my goal and move into the highest senior group.
I take the same approach to school. My school is an academic challenging high school. As a sophomore, I'm able to double up on my science courses. Knowing I'd like to go into an engineering or science field in college and that pushing myself in high school will help me to achieve that goal, I signed up to take Honors Algebra 2, Honors Biology, and Psychics as well as the standard English and social studies courses. I completed my foreign language requirement as a freshman to open my schedule for more advanced math and science course. I know where I want to go and am charting a course to get there with the advice of my teachers and lots of hard work.
