Personal Statement
Dear Coaches,
I am a motivated swimmer and student at Mountain Range High School in Westminster, CO graduating in 2023. I have been swimming for as long as I can remember and competitively for 6 years. Through the toughest of years to be an athlete I missed the opportunity to swim for my high school during my freshman year. Overcoming the constant challenge of closing pools I found ways to continue my training not only through my local swim team but through workouts at home. Swimming for the first time with my high school team during my Sophomore year I not only improved my times at every meet but I was able to post personal bests across the board. This trend continues at each meet with my competitive swim team the Front Range Barracudas.
While I continue to work to make strides to prepare for swimming at the collegiate level, I also work hard academically to prepare myself for the future. I aspire to obtain a degree in computer science specializing in cyber security. To achieve this I started taking AP and honors courses during my Sophomore year and am continuing to do so this year. I currently hold a 3.1 GPA and look to improve upon this score this year.
This past summer I worked as a lifeguard at Hyland Hills Water World. When testing for the position as a guard attendant, I asked if I could test for the more difficult position as a deep guard. I did not qualify for the position at the time due to my age however because I took the initiative to test early on, when I did qualify by age I was immediately upgraded to deep guard. This summer I also took the initiative to apply for a supervisory internship program for next year. I am a friendly and outgoing person who loves being apart of the team. Of the all the lessons I have learned from swimming, standing out as a leader, being a self motivator and a team player have been the most prominent.
I appreciate you taking the time to learn about me and look forward to speaking with you soon.
Sincerely,
Alex Martinez
