Throughout my nearly eight years of swimming, two accomplishments stand out. The first is Age Group Zones of 2018 where I placed third in the 50 Butterfly and second in the 100 Fly. My 100 Butterfly time currently holds the Long Course State Record for Iowa in the 13-14 age group. I was pleased to find out that my 50 Fly time was sixth nationally for 13-14 year olds, earning me a USA Swimming National Age Group Award. Secondly, going in to my first high school season I was unsure of what to expect; though I knew my goal was to go to state. I was so proud to not only make the podium but to place second in the 100 Butterfly.
The two accomplishments above were achieved through my internal drive and being goal oriented. One major obstacle I had to overcome happened during the summer 2018 season. I was unable to finished my 200 Fly in an A+ meet where I was seeded in the top three. That race led to some fear and anxiety in racing the 200 Fly. My determination, and a successful start to my high school season helped me to overcome that fear. I was able to race it in the 2019 short course state meet, where I placed third. Overcoming this obstacle has taught me to face my fears head on, which has benefitted me athletically and academically. This attitude along with strong time management helped me to achieve Academic Honors my first year of high school. I am looking for a university and program that will help me to continue to excel in the pool and the classroom. I hope to benefit a team as not only a leader but also as a learner.
