After touching the wall at the end of my first race, out of breath and feeling so proud, I knew that swimming was the exact, right place for me. That feeling has never gone away, it has only grown. I began this swim journey as a toddler and first competed at the age of 6. Over the years, and under the guidance of a variety of coaches, I have developed a calm, cooperative, and assured demeanor on deck and in life. As I have grown as an athlete, I have come to appreciate the importance of team cohesiveness. I feel comfortable stepping into whatever role needs to be filled at the moment. I am never too proud to ask for direction or offer support or direction to others as the opportunity arises. I love the feeling of knowing that working hard now, building skills, and always looking for a new challenge will serve me well in the future. Trusting this process and my coaches, while at the same time developing me as a person will help me be a valuable asset for a college team looking for new recruits.
Like most young swimmers, I have kept the dreams of Olympic competition close to my heart. College team swimming is the next step toward making that dream a reality. Ultimately, being an integral part of a highly successful team is the root of that dream, another piece of the puzzle! It will take a lot of effort and support but I am willing to do the work. I know that what I have to offer as a swimmer can make the chances of that kind of success a reality. I have carried that determination and drive into my academic philosophy as well. Prioritizing study time and always choosing the more challenging path has fed my goal setting and determination, mirroring my athletic tenacity. Taking on advanced courses in math, science, and engineering offered by my school has led me to the goal of pursuing a career in Engineering or Biological Sciences. Careers in these fields will allow me to be hands on, building and studying, ideally outdoors. Ultimately, I would love to find a Collegiate team that will give me a good balance of academic reputation and quality campus experience.
I have been built, shaped, and nurtured by a strong family, both at home and at swim. I am proud of the success I have enjoyed so far, but I know the best is yet to come. With all of these pieces in place, I know that I am, after all, in my exact right place. I am grateful for all of the support, sacrifice and love from everyone who has supported me throughout these years.
