Being able to participate in a collegiate level sport has been something I've wanted to do for a very long time. When it comes to swimming, the thing I love most is being a part of the team. There is no better feeling than cheering my teammates on, seeing them be successful, and being able to celebrate our accomplishments together. I feel my time and experience in the sport has helped shape me into the leader I am today. Competition is also something that really drives me. Over the course of the last year or so, when COVID made it difficult to find pool time, I began CrossFit training. I fell in love with competition aspect of the sport and really find the challenge of working to learn new skills fun. I also think this really complements some of what I've gained through swimming, such as conditioning, nicely. Although I haven't been at the sport very long, I'm looking forward to the strength gains I've developed through CrossFit paying off this coming swim season and in the years ahead!
I also enjoy being active, not only in my swimming career, but in other areas of my life too. Participating in activities for clubs I'm a part of, attending events to cheer on my peers who participate in other sports, and having a sense of involvement are things I have fun doing. They are also things I look forward to doing as I pursue my collegiate career.
Although I may have struggled a little when I was younger with my academics and have never been top swimmer, I've worked really hard to do better and better year after year in both these areas. I understand the importance of working hard to do well in life, no matter what it is I'm trying to accomplish. I think my recent improvements with both school and swimming have shown this.
Regardless of the school I end up attending, I look forward to shaping myself and growing as a person, both academically and athletically. I also want to have a positive impact on those around me. Education and staying physically healthy are two components of life that I hope to be able to carry on forever.
