Why I'm Motivated
College swimming was not on my radar at the beginning of the year. In April, I had the chance to represent my LSC at USA Swimming's Leadership Summit in Colorado Springs. This experience changed everything for me. I realized that the sport of swimming has impacted me in so many positive ways for nearly my entire life. I realized that I loved the sport and that I was excited about how swimming could help me prepare as a leader. This experience was enhanced when I attended a Select Camp hosted by my lSC. While I am aware of the effort that goes into swimming in college, I hope I can not only grow as a swimmer, but still continue to help and give back to a sport/community that has meant so much to me.
Being an Asset
Although I hate talking about myself, I feel that it is rather necessary to explain how I can positively contribute to the program and campus. I think my academic discipline and desire to do well academically, shows that i'm willing to be active in other aspects of my life besides swimming. I value academics and hope that I can find a program where I'm able to still excel. My teachers would say that I am a leader in the classroom. Outside of the classroom and swimming, I am an Eagle Scout. I am also a leader in the pool. I enjoy working with younger swimmers. I benefitted from kind, older swimmers when I was starting. I want to give back. I have also been a swimmer representative on my team's board and I am currently an athlete representative to our LSC's House of Delegates. I value my leadership skills and abilities. In addition, I am a very coachable athlete. I'm always willing to trust the process and try new things.
