Benjamin Butterfield '25 Recruiting Profile

My passion for swimming started when I was 7 years old when I asked my mother if I could sign up for year-round swimming. At that point I had been swimming for our summer team for 2 seasons,  and I just couldn't stop thinking about how much I loved to swim. This passion of mine has carried throughout my life and I leave everything I have in the pool. I am a hard worker and do not shy away when I have a hard set. I try to keep a lighthearted mood throughout practice, motivating and uplifting my teammates to get through the workout. I am dedicated to my teams (NOVA of Virginia, St Christopher's, and Granite summer swim) and am very competitive in competitions. I like to have fun but also know that there are times when we as a team need to lock in and get work done. Victory is not the main goal but rather improving and continuing to improve are.. Winning comes as a product of continuous improvement.  As the saying goes, "hard work beats talent, when talent does not work hard!"
