Dear coaches,
My name is Flint Hoyt and I would like to tell you why I want to run cross country and track in college. But before I go into details about that, I should tell you a little bit about myself. I am a junior in high school in a little Colorado mountain town called Crested Butte. Crested Butte’s elevation is 8,865 feet which means I get in a lot of high altitude training! My dream is to run for a Division II or III college. I would like to be in Colorado, but I can also go out of state as well.
Commitment is one of my most valuable traits, and I have shown a lot of commitment in my life. I am autistic and am committed to learning about my autism. I have persevered through many challenges, including people talking down to me and saying that I can’t do things. I proved that they were wrong by making good grades in high school and competing at a very high level in cross country and track. I am a hard worker, a successful runner, a good sport, and a kind and supportive friend. My autism allows me to focus very well, like when I focused on my strategy in a race this season and finished with a PR.
I am also very committed to my athletics. I am a goal setter and a go getter and I like working hard to achieve hard goals. I am a year-round athlete. In the fall I run cross country for Crested Butte Community School, in winter I have Nordic skied for the CB Nordic comp team and trained with a private running coach, and in the spring I run track for CBCS. In the summer I show my commitment to my sport by doing a 20-day running camp called Team Prep. This season, my cross country team had some very big goals and my commitment helped us get on the podium by winning second place at State.
In the classroom I am a very hard worker and serious about academics. I like to get things done. I am a goal setter in the classroom as well and am committed to getting the grades I need to get into college and get scholarships. My main challenge is math and I am very committed to getting my math up to the level where it needs to be. For example, I have a tutor to help me each week and meet with my math teacher before school.
If you are looking for a committed and positive athlete I am your guy! I work hard for my goals and I am a very committed person. If you ask me, my autism is a secret power that will help me with my athletics and academics. I am excited to talk to you, so please send me an email.
Sincerely,
Flint Hoyt
