With so many track and cross country athletes looking to run at the collegiate level, what separates me from the pack? For starters, I started running in March of 2016 as a sophomore. When I first started running, I thought my inexperience was something that might hold me back. What I found out however, was that I had a competitive hunger (with the sport being so new to me) as well as fresh legs, unlike my other competitors who have been putting wear and tear on their legs for numerous years. I've always been a student-athlete and I feel that when I run, I become a better student. I've always maintained a 4.45 weighted GPA in high school. When I run, I am more focused and I try as hard as I can to keep my grades up so I can compete for my school. Ever since I was 6 years old, I have been a part of a team. Whether it be a music band, baseball travel team, cross country, or track, I've always wanted to give my all to help the team succeed. This is where I feel I have another advantage over other prospective high school runners. While I see many runners who are self-centered, only concerned about PR's for each race, my mindset is different. Every race I compete in, I have one goal in mind: I want to run as fast as I can to help my team win.
