I have been running since elementary school, and in that time, I had my ups and downs with running, which shaped me into the person and athlete I am. Early in my running career, I could hardly run a mile, but over the years, I have become a positive member of my team, a determined and driven person, and a leader. Over high school, I have helped my team finish 3rd, 2nd, and this last season 1st in DII at the Hawaii State Championships. Over these past three seasons, I have finished in the top 25 in my state twice for cross country, with a 19th-place finish this last year. I plan to build off last season's performance to help my team repeat, and myself place highly in my state. Further in track, I have shown significant improvement over the last season. From not making my state championships in any event as a sophomore, I made a substantial leap, competing in the state final in the 1500 and medaling in the 800, my primary two events. I plan to better my placement in this next year. Being the oldest person on the team each season, with only seven freshmen when I began, has led to me stepping up and taking on the leadership role for the team, being named team captain and leading stretches and drills, setting the pace at practice, and helping to push my teammates. Additionally, my hard work can be seen not only in my athletic performance but also in the classroom, where I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA, taking various challenging courses, including 15 AP classes. Every day, I push myself in practice and school, building a character that would make me a great runner on your team.
