My name is Johnathan Faulkner, I am 17 years old, raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I am an extremely hardworking individual. I am determined to create a better life for not only myself, but my family and the community as well. I come from a family where financial stability is sometimes a weight on everybody's shoulder which is why I am determined to create a better life for myself so I can help the family out financially with a career in both athletics and academics.
In my personal life, aside from Track and Field, I love to tutor and be involved in other forms of volunteer work. I've volunteered at the Michigan Special Olympics, The St. Andrews Soup Kitchen, Middle Schools, and more. Volunteering is my way to give back to the community that gave to me at once. I find it extremely important that everyone in the world has someone that they can rely on and not feel alone. Also it's also good to be humble and grateful for some of things that we have today.
In my academic life, I am also a very hard-worker. I value my education so much and I am determined to reach success. Not too many of my family members go to College let alone get a High School Diploma so going to college is a must for me. It's something I WANT, NEED and is GOING to do. I don't give assignments that are half way done, I give you my best work or nothing at all. I am very helpful in my school and any teacher, staff member, administrator knows that they can come to me for any help.
As an athlete, I am a hardworking, determined athlete with lots of grit. I think that I push myself to be the best athlete that I can be. I am always ready for the hard workouts and also for the recovery workouts as well. Track to me isn't just running on your feet and crossing the finish line first. It's so much more than that to me. I try to set a good example for my peers and teammates to be the best athlete they can be. Success isn't something that is handed to you on a silver platter, it's something that you have to work for. I know and I let others know that if you have a goal that you want to achieve, then achieve it. If you focus on the smaller details of the goal, you will achieve the goal and more.
I am so excited to begin the next chapter of my life. To me, life is like a road trip. There's going to be times where your car is going to get low on gas, but as long as you get more gas in tank before the car is all out of fuel, you're going to go places, places that you would've never imagined that you were going to see. I know that the life ahead of me is not going to be easy, but I am ready to overcome the challenges and prosper in the end.
