Personal Statement
Interestingly, my athletic journey didn’t begin with running. Around a year before I started running seriously, I started out training for triathlons. This initial foray into endurance sports ignited a love that eventually steered me toward running. When I got to high school, I initially saw running as a way to advance my triathlon training, but I quickly fell in love with it and it just as quickly became my main focus. For me, running is very serene and calming in addition to fun. While my priorities have shifted to running, I still pursue my interest in triathlon, having completed two sprint triathlons and aiming to complete a half-Ironman next summer.
As a sophomore, I've experienced tremendous growth in multiple dimensions—as an athlete, student, and individual. For me, it’s incredibly addictive to see not only the quantitative improvements, such as times dropping, but also the qualitative ones. Running is incredibly disciplining and I’ve been able to apply that to other aspects of my life such as academics, which is paramount for me. In addition, I’ve seen myself grow as a leader and feel that also extends to other parts of my life. I'm keen to apply the lessons learned from running throughout my high school journey, into college, and in my future professional endeavors. It’s because of the skills I’ve learned academically and athletically, in addition to my work ethic, that I believe I am a good fit for your program!
