Personal Statement
Hello,
My name is JaVaughn Dillard-Lee, and I attend North Brunswick Township High School. I am six foot one inch, one hundred sixty five pounds of pure determination. During my junior year, I was best at triple jump, long jump, and high jump of our season. I became the school's jumping captain in only one season at events I started in March, April and May. My biggest accomplishment I achieved is jumping all three events at State Sectionals. It was an honor to compete against the best of the best and I only had three month's experience. I never would have thought that I was going to be a jumper, because sophomore year I had no clue what I was doing. I couldn’t clear 4'10, and I almost never made it in the pit for jumping. I started triple jump in March and went from 31'9 to 39'9. I started long jump in April and I went from 15'10 to 18'5. Lastly, I didn’t start high jumping until May and in one month with no coach, I cleared 5'8. When I get to learn the techniques for all the events, I will be a triple threat and would be a great increase to your team. Not many people are good at all the jumping events, and nobody has the urge for them as I do. I want to go to a school that isn't in the city; however I am willing to negotiate. I do qualify for financial aid, and I am trying to get a scholarship not only to pursue my passion, but to help make it easier for my parents to pay for my future education. My desired major is psychology. I want to be either a Psychologist or a gym teacher when I grow up. My athletic goals for high school are to go to Nationals, and to jump at Meet of Champions. If I give my all I will have the honor to jump there and that would boost my encouragement to jump in college. Some of the charistics I have that most athletes don’t have, is heart. I am the most dedicated on the Men's track team. While others complain about practice, or don't come to summer sessions, I am the first one ready to get better, and I put my all every time. I'll be the first to put my foot prints in the sand, and the last. My determination is what pushes me to tell myself to not quit. You should be interested in recruiting me, because my heart, determination, and hunger for my events. Also, I am unique and not like many. I don’t have the natural gift of jumping like some people, but my passion to be the best makes myself work harder and I guarantee the best results. I am willing to talk to any coach, and I hope you make the right choice, and wish to contact me.
