Personal Statement
If your dreams don’t scare you, then they aren’t big enough”.
This quote reflects my approach to life. it encourages me to live it to the fullest. Years from now, I want to look back and be proud of the risks I’ve taken to push myself forward. Once I begin college, I know that this mindset will allow me to take full advantage of my education – in terms of forming relationships, succeeding in coursework, and contributing to student groups.
The best example of how I lived out this quote’s message was my experience on my high school’s track team. Back then, not many people were fond of joining, which led to me usually being by myself. But that never stopped me from working hard. The practices were like hell. I cannot even count on my fingers how many times I threw up during training and walked home not being able to feel my legs. Sometimes, I felt like quitting, but I persevered.
Eventually, all my efforts paid off and i hit a personal best for 200-meter dash, at a time of 21.7 seconds since i started with a 26 – all while maintaining an 82 GPA. In the moment, I did not think I won, but after reflecting on all my efforts, it made sense. I earned the glory. I also remember thinking to myself, “this is only the beginning.” As I start my next chapter in college, I will carry this thought, and the encouraging words of my quote wherever I go.
