Personal Statement
My name is Ryan Juengel and I am a 6'4" Setter from St. Louis, Missouri.
My dream is to be that player that coaches on the opposing teams say, "Why didn't we recruit him?", "How did we miss that guy?", "Where did he come from?" as our team takes them down. My sports heroes are David Freese, Ryan O'Reilly, Patrick Mahomes, and Tom Brady. Guys that could perform on the biggest stage and in clutch situations.
I hope to be a starting setter and play for a competitive Division I or II Volleyball Program while obtaining an excellent education. I have always enjoyed sports, throughout grade school and junior high I played select baseball, select hockey, and volleyball. In 8th grade, I tried out for a select volleyball team, High Performance, and made the top team. I love being a setter, the action and speed of top-level volleyball are why I would like to play at the collegiate level. I enjoy the strategy of the game, shredding the defense, and making my teammates look good by giving them hittable balls.
I believe my strengths are that I am a good athlete, a good teammate, a good communicator, and I get along well with others. In baseball, I am a catcher and I have to strategize on how to call a game and get hitters out. Throughout the years I have been in leadership roles on most of my teams. In volleyball, I have always played on the top team for my age group or with an age group a year older. Last season I was the only 16-year-old on our 17 Royal team. Playing team sports my entire life, in many different venues, has taught me how to deal with adversity, provided me with humility and respect for my teammates, coaches, schools, and organizations. I am very coachable and understand the nature of a team game and hard work.
On an academic level, I enjoy school and my interests are studying business and law. I attend a Catholic High School that stresses good moral character and community service. I am currently a part of the National Honors Society and have a 4.03/4.0 GPA.
