Personal Statement

My name is Cailey Collado and I am a 5’3 multi-faceted softball player. I truly love this sport that I’ve been dedicated to for the past 10 years. My most important achievements include being Captain of the 2015 ASA 14u Western National Championship team, being named the 2016 Rookie of the Year for Ocean View High School Softball, being a varsity scholar athlete in my freshman, sophomore and junior years, and being named the Ocean View HS Athlete of the Month for March 2018.  And as a vocalist, I commonly sing the national anthem for opening day or CIF home games for multiple sports!

I am capable of handling an incredibly busy extra-curricular schedule while maintaining a strong balance between athletics, education, and extracurriculars as demonstrated through my participation in ASB as the Activities Commissioner, ASB Communications Commissioner, President of the People Help the People Club, Senior Class President, Producer for the Academy of the Performing Arts magnet program, black belt in traditional Japanese Karate-do, and being a leader at St. Bonaventure Church through youth ministry and music ministry. These activities have helped me see the value of teamwork targeted towards a common goal. All of this combined with my daily softball training has confirmed that I am capable of hard work and perseverance.  Being the captain of the Legends travel team has taught me to value leadership and comradery above all else. I feel I bring inspiration and a strong work ethic to any team and I believe that heart is the true key to success.

Although I would love to stay close to the West Coast to play collegiate softball, I am open to playing in other parts of the country. Location is just a small factor in my decision.  Overall, I am focused on looking for an ideal college where I can continue to live out my passion for softball and community service, as well as further my education. I plan to finish my bachelors degree and continue on to pursue my masters and PhD. Currently, I am very interested in the sciences, especially biology with a focus on dentistry. Although I have a firm plan now, I realize that my major may change as I gain more experience this next year in high school as well as in college.

My main goals include playing collegiate softball as well as to continuously improve my skill set. I also plan on giving back to the softball community that gave me so much: Huntington Beach Girls Softball. I grew up in that league learning not only the craft of softball but how to be a good teammate and how to well represent our city on a national level. I hope to inspire all the girls in that league, especially my little sister. I want them to believe that they can live out their dreams of playing collegiate softball by means of hard work and true ambition. At the end of the day, I hope to lead the girls of my hometown league by example.
