Personal Statement
My name is Avery Katz, and I am a junior at Brookfield High School (BHS class of 2020).
I am passionate about softball. Not only do I love to play the game and compete, but I truly value the lessons learned and experiences gained that I know will serve as a foundation for success throughout my life. My goal and dream is to become the best player I can be, and earn the opportunity to play and make an impact at the next level at a school that represents a great fit for me academically and as a softball player.
As a freshman and sophomore I was the starting center fielder. I was voted as the top defensive player by my coaches (2017), received the team hustle award (2018), and was among the leaders in several offensive categories each of my first two high school seasons - including batting average, on base percentage, stolen bases, and runs scored. I also was selected to the 2017 and 2018 all SWC Patriot Division teams. Our team played for the 2018 CT State Class L championship. We lost to the number one ranked team overall in the state, but we had a great run as a big underdog and learned many valuable lessons about how far you can go if you work hard, believe in each other and play as a team.
This past summer I was the starting center field for the Connecticut Edge 18u travel softball team. Competing with girls who already had a year of college experience has motivated me even more to pursue my dream of playing college softball.
As a student, my current GPA is 3.90. I enjoy science, math, and music.
