Statement

Hi, my name is Gabi de los Reyes (c/o 2027). I am junior at Wellington High School, class of 2027. I am writing you to express my high level of interest in your softball program. Although I am just now entering my junior year, I believe I am building a softball resume worthy of your consideration. For the past few seasons I have been part of the national organization Fury Platinum. I have led my team in most offensive categories almost every year that I have been involved in travel softball since 10U. When I was in 12U our team made it to the semifinals of the Babe Ruth World Series, but one of my favorite memories was the following year when we were 14U and won it all, defeating Puerto Rico in the final 16-6 after having lost to them earlier in the tournament. In the World Series final I went 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI. It was a great experience that I will never forget where I met softball players from around the world. I’ve played on very high-level teams in travel and also when I was in middle school, where we won the district championship two years in a row.

In high school I had the fortune of being zoned for a school that just happened to be the No. 1 ranked team in the state (7A), Wellington High School, and No. 8 ranked team in the state overall. Considering the talent and college commits they already had, I was initially just happy to make varsity, eventually working my way into the lineup and by the end of the season I was starting. Although our team was similarly stacked with college committed juniors and seniors during my sophomore year as well where we won the state championship, I was still one of only a couple of underclassmen to see significant playing time.    

I play and have played almost every position. However, my main or most consistent position when I’m not needed elsewhere is third base. But in just this past season I have pitched, played first base and also caught. I am a softball junkie and consider myself very knowledgeable in the game. I’m pretty vocal and defensively I pride myself in always trying to be in the right place at the right time and making sure my teammates are as well.

Academically, I am in the top eight percent of my class in the Cambridge Program (AICE) and most recently, my weighted GPA was a 4.6. I would love to play Division I softball and hopefully my level of play keeps reflecting that, but I also have goals in college of majoring in journalism/communications and having a career in sports media. But before that happens, instead of just watching the best play on TV every May and June when I’m hooked watching the College Softball World Series, I hope and pray that one day I’m the one competing on that same stage.
