Personal Statement

I want to play college softball because I like the challenge, and I like the idea of the higher level coaches pushing me harder to do my best. I also understand the commitment and the time that is needed for me to achieve my goal of playing college softball. I believe that my coaches and teammates would describe me as outgoing, loud, and very funny to be around. They would also say that I work well with others.  When someone doesn't understand a drill, I try my best to help them.  I do it because it's a team sport and if one person doesn't get it, then the whole team can't be it's best.  Everyone is in it together.  The type of coaches/program I want to play for would be a program that isn't just a team, but it's a family, where all the girls are close and we can all look at each other and know what the other is thinking.  Also, a coaching staff that explains concepts in different ways so everyone can understand. I personally am a visual learner and some words click and others don't, so its important that the coaches explain expectations in different forms and are clear.  Lastly, I want a coaching staff/program that is an overall fun team experience.

  • The program was started by Bob Martin and Ed Serdar to help HS girls prepare for softball in HS and college in 1978. The original team was all HS girls and we played in Women’s Open competition. We never heard of youth softball. In 1983 we played our first youth ASA tournament and finished 2nd in the Chicago Metro, and third in the Midwest regional. After several years we started the 16U team, then the 14U, and then the 12U and 10U. We practiced and played our games at Plainfield HS, Joliet St. Francis (now Joliet Catholic), Lockport HS, Providence HS, Lewis University, and in the late 80′s we found Stone City. We played there until 2005 when we temporarily moved to Joliet Catholic for the 2006 season. Then our new field was built in Minooka, we started there in the 2007 season. Our list of coaches is like a who’s who of the area:Our teams have had success in competition, winning several national championships, local championships, and playing abroad, and nationwide. Our players advanced to play at many universities, and some according All-American status, and graduating with high honors. We even had one Olympian, Dani Tyler.
