May 2014Winning a bronze medal at the 2013 U21 Canadian National Championships as a 16 year old on a U18 team is one of my greatest accomplishments as a softball player. I am also proud to say that I also have been apart of winning three gold provincial medals, all as either a first year or underaged player. I pride myself in being a leader on and off the field. I perform almost better under pressure because I have nerves of steel that allows me to make clutch plays. I play hard and competitively while being able to balance being positive and having fun at the same time. In all the cases where my team has fallen short of a game, it has been due to lack of communication or energy, so I believe that they are some of the key tools in winning a ball game and try my best behind the plate to use them. One of my most recent struggles was at 2014 U18 Canadian Nationals. My defensive side of the game was flawless, but I needed some help on the offensive end because I wasn’t getting solid hits in (was probably batting a .100). I asked my my mom to video a few at bats, and got my coach identified what I was doing wrong. Then once the play offs came around I was batting .500 with: 2 doubles, 4 walks, 5 RBI, and 3 runs brought in. I was able to overcome this struggle and not get discouraged from it. I tried out for team Alberta this year, made second cuts and should know if I make it in two weeks!
An excellent athletic program is not the only important thing I am looking for, I would also like to get the best of both worlds and get into a great academic program as well. My education is just as important to me as softball. I work as hard in the classroom as I do on the field and have the marks to show for it. At this moment I am undecided on what career path I want to take in post secondary, but I still got a little while to decided!
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me better! I hope to hear from you in the future!
