Alyssa Gilliland '23 Recruiting Profile

My name is Alyssa Gilliland.

I was recently approved to graduate in 2023. 

 I live in Lexington Park, Maryland with my parents, Jeremy and Christy Gilliland, and my brother, Matthew.  My dad is my best friend and is one of the smartest and funniest people I’ve ever known.  My mom inspires me to keep working to be a better person than I was yesterday and never, ever settle for less. 

My mother suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm in 2017 and was given a less than 1% chance of surviving by her neuro-surgical team.  She spent 27 days in ICU...this was the most terrifying and stressful experience of my life!  I felt helpless watching her and not being able to do anything for her.  Every day we went to visit her, she remained optimistic about her recovery.  My mom not only recovered 100%, but she also completed her Master's degree shortly after with a 4.0 GPA.  I learned so much from my mother’s determination and I promised myself I will always fight just as hard as she did. 

I have been playing softball for 10 years.  I wanted to play because my father has been playing baseball and softball for most of his life.  I absolutely fell in love with the sport and work hard to keep improving with each season.  I play year-round for at least two teams per season.  My normal schedule puts me on a softball field about 6 days a week.  During “slower” seasons, I usually go to the fields with other softball-playing friends to play games or work on batting. 

I am a Junior/Senior at Great Mills High School.  I am a starter for the Varsity Softball Team.   I am rostered as a utility player, including all positions except for pitcher.

I am a very hard-working and persevering teenager.  I set my own goals and giving up is never an option.  I am fanatically and emphatically determined to succeed at everything I set my mind to.
