Personal Statement
Hello,
UPDATE: I have since signed to play softball for the University of Northern Iowa. ***
My name is Kaylyn Jones and I am in my Senior year at Park Hill High School in Kansas City, Missouri. I've been the starting pitcher for my school's Varsity team since I was a freshman. I was also the starting pitcher for the Sting Select '00 18 Gold team from Smithville, Missouri for 2 years, but they have since graduated. I moved to Select Fastpitch and had a great summer season finishing with a 1.74 ERA against some of the top teams in the country. Time flies when you're growing up. How did I get here? And what makes me special as a pitcher?
It began when I was 7. I asked my mother if I could learn how to pitch. Being from a long line of softball players in my family, she explained that it's the most difficult of positions and it takes a strong work ethic and character to be able to succeed. It's not just about learning the pitches & the mechanics, it's about developing the mental toughness for the position. If you ask any of my coaches, my fellow players, and even other coaches, they will tell you that if anyone can come back on a 3-0 count and strike the opposition out, I can. They will also tell you, if bases are loaded and there's no outs, I can get our team out of it. I am tough, can place pitches, and have wicked spin & movement. My goal is to go to college and play softball, not because I may be get a scholarship, it's because I love the game, and I'm at home in that circle.
Academically, I plan to study communications leading up to and including pre-law. I'm not sure what type of law I'd like to pursue, but I am an advocate for human & animal rights. I have a passion for learning. I'm currently on the Scholar Bowl team, will be participating in the Professional Studies program shadowing at a law firm, and am the VP of National Honor Society.
If you as a coach watched me pitch a game, you wouldn't be disappointed. There's many battles to be won and I like the letter K!
