Growing up in a home with a self sufficient single mom has instilled in me how to be a strong, independent, and a hardworking individual. I am where I am today because my mom has been a positive role model. She has pushed me to be a kind and caring person, teammate, and student.
I started playing softball when I was nine. My mom encouraged me, but the real reason I wanted to play was to meet new friends after recently moving. The more I practiced hitting the better I got. After a family vacation, I missed three games of our district tournament. My mom picked me up from the airport and we headed straight to the fields so that I could cheer on my teammates. I fully expected not to play the next few games. It was the final inning with bases loaded, we were down by two runs. The ninth positioned batter was up when my coach yelled across the field at me to put on my helmet and go in to bat. I was confident and believed I could hit the girls in to advance to the finals of the tournament and that is exactly what I did.
Playing team sports has taught me that I am not afraid to fail. When I get down on myself, I have to remember this to be able to contribute to the team. I have carried this mindset with me not only personally but in the classroom.
Academics are very important to me. I would like to be accepted into a college that will not only provide me with an education for my future but will allow me to pursue my passion of softball. I am currently interested in a bachelors degree in psychology/family counciling. Additionally, I intend to be accepted into a masters program.
Things I am passionate about are singing, theatre, and volunteering at my local food distribution center. Working at the center allows me to connect with others less fortunate than myself, which is humbling. I have learned to be resilient after surviving a house fire that destroyed everything we owned. This is another reason why volunteering and helping others is important to me.
In closing, I am smart, driven, athletic, and coachable. I believe I will be a good addition to your program with my dedication to the sport and desire to go to the next level of education.
