As you grow older, there are many things that help build you into the person you are today. For me, one of the major factors that shaped me into who I am now is softball. Whether it’s inspiring young athletes while volunteering at local recreational softball clinics, or competing against national travel teams, I always implement the lessons I have learned throughout my ten years of experience playing softball. These lessons include the importance of teamwork, confidence, and keeping your composure, along with knowing that hard work pays off.
With my intent to play college softball, I feel that I bring many unique attributes to the table. I always stay positive no matter what the situation is, and I learn from my losses rather than dwell on them. As I grow more serious with my softball career, commitment has become a major value to me. My love of softball is judged by my non-athletic peers due to how much time I put into it. Going the extra mile to further improve is of no inconvenience to me, because working with the mindset that there is always room for improvement and that hard work pays off is a reliable way of becoming a better athlete. Accomplishing the goals I set for myself is the motivation to become the best softball player I can be.
What sets me aside from other players is my positive attitude overall. Although some games may get rough, I always find a way to look forward while keeping my composure. I see the importance in being close with my teammates, so we can all work towards our personal and team goals together. I am easily approachable and encourage constructive criticism from my coaches as well as my teammates. My work ethic and positive attitude are well-displayed in my role as an active member in the National Honor Society and my volunteering with the local Special Olympics teams. Creating bonds with the athletes on both teams have been meaningful experiences for me. From an athletic perspective, stamina has been a key factor in my success as a pitcher. I am very used to pitching the majority of the games during my softball seasons, and due to my experience, I feel confident and comfortable in the pitching circle.
Softball pulled me out of my shell as a young kid and built me into the confident, driven, and competitive player I am today. The feeling I get when I step onto the field is like nothing else. Throughout many years of playing various sports, softball has always stood out to me as my true passion, and it would be an honor to compete at the collegiate level. Not only would I be playing a game I love for four more years, but I would also be playing at a level I have been working towards for so long. Attending college is going to include incredible experiences such as making new friends, learning about a career I take interest in, and becoming more self-reliant; however, it won't be the same if softball isn’t part of my college adventure.
