Softball has been a significant part of my life since I was seven years old. My parents thought that I would try it and move on to another activity, but I loved it and wanted to play as much as possible. I started with my first travel team the following year and started pitching soon after that. It has been a constant goal of mine to be on a college team and contributing to the success of that team in any way that I can.
I am extremely disciplined and have a strong work ethic, which I believe are critical to be successful, especially as a pitcher. My first pitching coach told me that if you want to be a pitcher, you have to work harder than anyone on your team. This stuck with me at 10 years old. I know that I have to put in the work and I do. Up until I was 13, I was also a level 6, competitive gymnast, which taught me the necessity of core strength and endurance. Strength training continues to be a regular part of my workouts. I also have played Varsity Basketball for the past two years, which has assisted me with conditioning and agility.
With my pitching, I throw a mix of pitches specializing in inducing ground balls. My changeup is very effective, and some of my other favorite pitches are the screw ball, two-seam fastball and drop. When I am not pitching, I really enjoy playing 1st base. I have found that my height and flexibility are assets for this position too. Hitting is also a priority for me, and I have been able to contribute at the plate as well.
There is no other feeling like being in the dirt, and my comfort zone is definitely on the field. I enjoy pitching because it enables me to control the game; but as a pitcher, there will always be tough games. This has made me stronger, more determined and mentally tough. I always strive to take away something to work on in order to improve and to benefit my team. I have learned and improved so much while working with my Pitching Coach, Billy “Chief” Gerald. And, I know that there is always room for improvement, so I am continuously working to learn and grow and to make those small adjustments.
I take as much pride in my academics as I do my sport. I plan to major in Biology or a Pre Medical program so that I can obtain my ultimate goal of going to Dental School and becoming a Pediatric Dentist. This has been a goal of mine for as long as playing softball in college. In my spare time, I love spending time with my family and friends, baking, and trips to the beach.
