Personal Statement
Hi Coaches,
My name is Sophia vanderSommen. I have been involved in organized sports for as long as I can remember. I've played soccer, softball, basketball, volleyball and even did some dancing when I was little. I love being part of a team and the relationships that I've built with my many teammates over the years. However, softball is my real passion. I've played on several different club teams and numerous All-Star teams, always with the long term goal in mind of playing college softball one day. I've been taking private pitching lessons for the last 7 years and plan to continue with that all through high school. I also work with a hitting instructor in the off-season to improve my game there. My dad set up a batting cage in our garage for winter workouts and we also spend a lot of time at my club team's indoor facility when the bad weather comes. I really enjoy all of the time I spend doing softball drills and practice. It doesn't seem like work, even though I'm usually dripping with sweat afterwards. Of course, playing games and tournaments is great fun and I've had a lot of success to this point, but the relationships I've built with both teammates and coaches, I wouldn't trade for anything. I currently maintain a 4.15 GPA and really enjoy school. I've played volleyball in my freshman and sophomore high school sports seasons and I received All-League honors during both seasons in softball. I'm really looking forward to my Junior high school softball season as well as the club season that follows.
