Personal Statement
I am Hannah Clifton and I am 5'6" tall and weigh 165lbs. I just turned 14 years old and I am a freshman at Covington High School in Covington, Tn. I am a softball player at heart and have played since I was 6.
There are several things that I am the most proud of when considering my accomplishments on the softball field. I am proud that I have learned that I can improve my ability through hard work and practice. I have also learned this game we play is a team sport and I need to surround myself with 8 other girls who have the same soul burning desire to play as me.
I am proud that during the years I played Dixie Youth Softball, I was given the award known as the Amy Ruffin Golden Glove Award. The Amy Ruffin Golden Glove Award is given to the very best player out of a league which plays 250 kids each summer. Amy Ruffin was a super player who was killed her freshman year in college. To even be compared to her is an honor.
I am also proud that this past summer during the College World Series I was playing with my travel team, Phoenix Fastpitch, in Oklahoma City in a Triple Crown Tournament. During this tournament, I was chosen as a Triple Crown All Star and given the chance at an all expense paid trip to New York City where I will get to play softball in the famed Central Park.
During the last 3 years, no matter the team I have played for, I have served as the team captain. I feel like I am a good leader and it made me feel really good for my coaches to see it and ask me to serve as the Captain of my team. This is an honor I do not take lightly.
I feel I have alot to offer a team. I have a great combination of competitive desire, extreme work ethic, team ladership abilities and above all I am a teachable student who truly loves this game of softball. I have an ability to see the entire field during a game and know where I and other players need to focus on. I play every pitch and every play of every game because I know it is the next pitch or play that will determine the outcome of the game. That is the play I want to be a part of. I am a team player and I know it takes all 9 to play this game, 9 girls willing to sacrafice for the team.
I am not decided on a school or a location for a school. All I know at this point is I will go to college and I want to play softball while I am there getting my education.
For now my focus is my high school, Covington High School. Covington has been to the State Tournament 18 years in a row and as a freshman my goal is to earn a spot on the team that will make it 19 years in a row. Go Chargers!
