Personal Statement

Hello to all Coaches, My Name is Sammie Jo Ivy and I am just now Finishing my Freshman year in High school right now, it was very exciting and I got to pitch alot .I am 5'6" and 140lbs and I plan on growing a little more because I love softball, and I hope to be the best I can possibly be and a few more inches in height would be helpful to reaching my dreams of playing at the highest level of softball I can play. As of right now I have been playing Fast pitch softball for going on 6 years. I started at 9 yrs. old in Dixie Youth, and two years later I was playing travel ball at 11 yrs. old in 14U as a pitcher and catcher and third base. I really love being involved in every pitch of the game, and I am hoping to play softball in college because I want to further my education in the medical field. I have always wanted to be an Orthopedic surgeon every since my father has become disable with his back ,and I took a fall as well and fell on some glass and cut my leg really bad. A surgeon come from his house to sew me back up and he talked to me as he worked on me, and I really saw then what I needed to do all my life. I knew then I wanted to help people in need like I was that night, and people like my father that has worked very hard all his life and lives with pain till this day. I am a Christian and the Lord Jesus Christ is first in my life, and I lean on him to help through everything I do in life. For my Bible verse,I live by on and off the field is Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which Strengtheneth me,so if things are not going right in a game I just talk to him in the circle and stand firm. I am looking for a school and a coach that is excited about having me on their roster, and wants to help me be all I can be for myself and for the team. Also a school that is very exciting to be apart of,and a team that has teammates that has the same goals in the sport of softball, that is willing to work with me and me them to better our team and reach our goals. And maybe even be good enough friends to help each other with academic goals and Etc. I really love travel ball as well as High School ball but I really like traveling from sportsplex to sportsplex playing against great competition and meet other girls that have similar dreams and goals. Also love seeing different parts of the country for I have been saving sand and dirt off of every field that I have played tournaments on for the last three years, Because it means something to me! And I have always had a very supportive family that has always backed me especially my dad, for he has coached me and we have faught, laughed, and cried together with this ball. I would not be were I am right now if it wasn't for my Dad. He even built me a building out behind our house to practice and pitch all year around. He always told me Champions are made in the back yard, and I am starting to believe that. Within the last 4 years I have put in 1,400 hours of pitching in games, lessons, and in the back yard. I was taught the difference between a good pitcher and a great pitcher is the time and dedication that they give the sport that they want to play. I am seeing the pieces all fall in place now that I am in High School, if you would have ask me two years ago if I would have been one of the main pitcher on my Chester High School softball team I am not sure how I would have answered that, but I believe now all things are possible with some faith and hard work. I have been honored to be ask to go and play 18U Gold team for Terry Woodall the coach of Tennessee Attack out of Nashville, TN. I am going to be the youngest player on the team, but he told me I would do great that he has the team to back me up. Which most are Seniors in High school and freshman in College so I am very Honored to be ask to pitch and play 3rd base for them because I will be able to learn from some really great Softball girls, and will be pitching to two different college girls. I am loving this because I feel the Lord has control and Opening these doors for me and my hard work is not going unnoticed . Last year I was playing for Southern Stars out of Lexington Tn. and was able to lead my team to a USGF Fall State Championship, and was honored with winning the most outstanding pitching Award. In Jr. High I was giving the Eagle Award which I was a honored with (for my school is the Eagles) it is an Award giving to the most overall improved and valuable player on the team, and my High School Coach and Dad are teaching me how to be a good leader on and off the field as well a quality that I think will help me all my life even when I become a surgeon and have a life in my hands. My Father has always told me that Baseball taught him how to be the leader in his life. He was as a Master Electrician Superintendent and built several sportsplex's in his life. In my freshman year in High school I carried a Batting average all year .500 to .700 finishing with a .580 and a slugging average of .820 and only striking out 6 times. I had a good year so far and for my pitching record I won 14 games and lost 4, struck out 104 batters, pitched 9 shut outs, which 5 of those were no hitters. They consisted of 79 innings, 1,104 pitches over all, average on pitches per inning 13.97, and overall avg. on pitches pitched per game of 61.33. My running Home to First is a 3.13 and Home to Home is 12.75. I also run Varsity Cross Country to stay in shape for softball that is all I do for sports in school not that I can't play Basketball or Volleyball I just really love Fast Pitch softball I eat, drink, and live softball. My back yard is full of fixture to practice on, and my building my Dad built for me and my little sister, Dixie. My room is all softball with all my hero's in Baseball and Softball Like Babe Ruth and Cat Osterman. My Dad tells people he is training me for the Olympics when they get back in it. I am looking for a school Big or small with a good Academic level, and a great Level of division that provide challenges and goals. I really love the SEC I have been in the south all my life ,but if a school likes me and we click who knows I just want to play Softball and get a great education at the same time. I would like to break all of Cat Ostermans records someday. If your going to set goals might as well set them high. My Dad and Mom told us all are life's that there is no way that they will be able to send us to college, and from a very young age they have trained us to work hard in school and get a Education. If I worked hard that some one some were would find interest in me and the doors would open for me and my sister some day. And If I go and play for college someday I am going to try to be the best I can be to help my team, and I am going to find some records to set my goals on. I am going to give it my best and then some to be the best on the field and in the class room.
