My name is Addison Johnson; I am a sophmore at Summit High School, located in Spring Hill, TN. I am a member of the Lady Spartan's softball team. I plan to major in sports physical therapy or occupational therapy in college. My academic plan for High School is to take the Medical Science Honors course track, along with adding some key Advanced Placement courses to better prepare me for college.
I instantly fell in love with the game of softball at the age of eight years old, and took the mound as a right handed pitcher at the age of ten. Making the decision to become a pitcher, was not taken lightly. My newly formed 10u kid pitch team needed a pitcher to compete in our local softball league. As the coach sit us down in the dugout and asked, " Who would like to fill those shoes?" I raised my hand and said coach, " I'll take the mound for the team." That is how my softball story began seven years ago.
For the past six years overcoming obstacles is something that as a pitcher I face on a daily basis. There has been times through out this journey I have been on the top of the mountain, and other times I have been at the bottom of the valley. Some of the most common obstacles that I have faced are increasing mobility, speed, flexability, and battling back after injuries. I use these obstacles not to define me as a athlete or person, but an opportunity to use the time to reflect/assess what I can change to overcome these obstacles and come back a better athlete.
I have learned the following about myself since being apart of the sport of softball: I have a determination to grow and become a better athlete than I was yesterday, true grit to never give up on my big dreams, unconditional love for my teammates, it takes complete ultimate sacrifice to play at the next level, take away at least one lesson from my coaches each day; which are my life long mentors, and I have growing passion for the game of softball.
Matty Moss from the University of Tennessee, has been the college pitcher that has influenced me the most, in how I handle myself when I am on the mound. I looked up to her for the pure emotion that she showed whenever she would be in the circle. The love she showed her teammates after each pitch knowing they had her back, the way she commanded that circle with straight pose and composer was the biggest things that attracted me to her. Her mindset was unshakable! Not a single error effected her mindset while she was on the mound.
I bring leadership to the circle, and am very poised under pressure. I'm full of passion, energy, and enthusiasm as I take the field with a team first attitude. If you don't see me on the field you want miss my voice in the dugout encouraging and cheering on my teammates. I am a goal driven competitive student athlete that has a solid fastball and likes to paint the corners of the plate, but my strength is my knuckle change-up that keeps batters off balance with the off speed. I have a 95% location accuracy rate, and love to work batters with my spins and movement patterns as I use my drop, screw, and curve ball. Having the opportunity to play softball at the college level is my ultimate dream.
