Hi, my name is Gianna Rose. I must say that talking about myself is a little bit difficult. I am not shy, per se, but I prefer to show who I am. But, if I were to describe who I am, I regard myself as an athlete, a student, a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a learner. I started my path to college a little late, but I learned a lot and was ready for the work to be started. My parents have emphasized education and always made it a part of my future, along with choosing my sport.
For me, I struggled at the beginning of high school to understand the importance of what I was doing in the present and its long-term effects. As my Dad would say, I had to play the "long game." To add to this, I did not have the experience with softball that some of the other girls had, and I wanted more. I wanted to "close the gap," so to speak, between myself and the other girls I looked up to and who were more experienced. I wanted to be a player the coach and my teammates could count on.
To do this, I would have to make up my mind and understand the hard work it would take with no turning back. I was committed and willing to put in the work, dedicating everything to getting better, and I was never satisfied with my status because I knew I could do better. Throughout my high school years so far, i've learned a lot. I've grown from my freshman year, but I still have a ways to go. I have time and will improve some of my skills and try honing it all for my senior year next year. I would say the biggest challenge for me is the mental game that comes into play, but I've learned how to control that in a way and focus on the game. I'm very competitive and determined to do what I have to do and continue to work and get better. Some people may not understand how much time and work gets put into being a student-athlete, but it's worth it for me to focus on what I need to do and perfect my skills on the field. I enjoy being a team player and helping the team in any way possible because it's not always about winning the game. It's about helping your team, doing your job, and winning it together. I'm glad I chose this path and chose to play this sport and I'm looking forward to continuing to grow and work harder to achieve my goals and having fun with this journey.
