Searching for the perfect college can be a daunting but exciting process. I’m hoping to find a school with a strong communications program so that I can pursue a career in broadcast journalism. In addition, I would love to continue to play softball during college.
I have worked very hard, year-round, to improve my skills. As a freshman, I was the starting third baseman on the varsity team. Since then, shortstop has become my primary position, but I consider myself more of a utility player as I am able to play second and third base as well. In addition, I am also a catcher. My junior year was an interesting one. I was the starting shortstop and really doing well. My confidence grew and I hoped, with every pitch, that the ball was going to be hit to me. About half way through the season, our starting catcher left the team suddenly, leaving me to catch for the rest of the season. As one of the team captains, I had to stay positive and help a freshman on our team step into the role of shortstop. I continued to work hard and, in the end, earned a spot on the Second Team All Metro as a catcher.
Whether I’m taking batting practice in the middle of winter, or staying late after practice to field grounders with my dad, or spending my summer weekends traveling to tournaments, I’m always striving to be a better softball player.
I am very committed and very team-oriented. I do what I’m asked to the best of my ability. While I am confident in my skills, I consider myself to be very coach-able. I appreciate coaches with high expectations and will work hard to meet them. I know that I have a lot to offer coaches and teammates at the college level. I just love the game.
