Hello,
My name is Kimberly Ishmael. I am a Senior at South Oldham High School, in Kentucky. I play varsity level basketball and I am looking to advance my career to the collegiate level. I work hard everyday inside and outside of practice. I like to keep myself in shape and healthy. I am a very organized person - preferring to have my day planned out before it begins so that I know what to expect. I personally am very big on respect. All people deserve respect of a certain level no matter who they are or what they do. I am a very dedicated person. I play three Varsity level sports and maintain my grades to the top 25% in the school. I also work a part time job. I am punctual and quizzical. I like to analyze things to fully understand their concept so that I can execute without mistake. I will always put forth the effort that is needed. Once I make a commitment, I stick to it and never give up. I will sacrifice myself and my body for the things I love. Basketball is a thing that I love with all my heart and I am determined to push through any and all obstacles no matter their size or mine.

Awards-Beta Club Given to students who show outstanding abilities and have shown academic excellence. -Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) I was awarded $425 for 2012-13 and $400 for 2013-14 for achieving a high GPA.
Activities*Beta Club: or two years I have been a part of Beta Club, and it has affected my life in ways that are hard to comprehend. I went to a Catholic school from third grade to eight grade so community service is something I hold very close to my heart. The feeling that you get when helping someone else is a feeling that a person can cherish for the rest of their life. Beta Club is another way for me to exercise my right to help people in any way shape or form. Beta Club has taught me to be responsible and to care for others and their problems. Beta Club has taught me to take community service very seriously. Another thing that Beta Club taught me is to be serious about things that need care. Beta Club has changed me and the way I look at the world for the better. *St. Aloysius Catholic Church: I have been a member at St. Aloysius Catholic Church since I was six, and I have been a catholic since I was born. My grandfather was a Deacon at a church called St. Williams where he baptized me. This officially marked the start of my catholic faith. Being a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church has molded me in so many ways. It has taught me to have faith that all things happen for a reason and that I can do all things through God and His life. I go to church on Sundays and I pray a lot, mostly by myself though. I have gone through hard times and I have felt unhappy about everything but I never gave up, and I know I have all of these opportunities available to me, such as this great opportunity. I cherish the things that St. Aloysius Catholic Church has taught me, and I will use my perseverance, my strength, and my willingness to hope for a better future for the rest of my days to come. *Vacation Bible School at St. Aloysius Catholic Church: I have been a part of Vacation Bible School for five years. In those five years I have met thousands of amazing children and over twenty adults who are truly inspiring. The adults have inspired me to give up one week of my summer, three hours a day, to advance the faith of the children involved. I have helped teachers with little tasks such as watching over the children, keeping things in order, cleaning up the surroundings for the next class, and supervising activities that the teacher could not supervise. I connected with these kids in ways that I hope motivates them to do things like being a teacher’s assistant at Vacation Bible School. I learned how to handle children and how to take responsibility. I also learned how to handle certain situations such as; schedule changes, sick or sad children, unwillingness to participate, and illness. These skills will help me in the future when I have people working under me. *Concession Stand at Peggy Baker Little League Baseball Park: I worked at the Concession Stand at Peggy Baker Little League Baseball Park for one year during the summer following my sophomore year. I worked a total of thirty-five days, five hours a day. I was paid five dollars an hour as a regular worker, and seven dollars an hour as a supervisor. I didn’t really do the job for the money; I mostly did it because I wanted to get prior experience in a work environment before I fully placed myself out in the working world. Working at the concession stand has given me skills on how to handle customers, how to market in order to gain sales, and how to create product in a timely and orderly fashion. Working at the concession stand was an amazing experience that I hope to repeat in the future. Working in general had a lot more meaning to me than I expected. It gave me a chance to feel what it is like to be independent and how to rely on my own abilities instead of my parents. *The Ironman: This year I worked the Ironman in Louisville, KY, all day for one day. This experience by far is one of the most thrilling and inspiring things I have ever had the chance to experience. I was able to get up close and personal with the bikers of the Ironman. It was amazing to see these normal, ordinary people working so hard to finish this race that will be a part of their lives forever. I handed out energy gel packets, energy gummies and energy drinks similar to Gatorade. The people who were a part of the Ironman had this look in their eyes that you don’t normally see in everyday life. The look of determination, the look of perseverance, and the look of a person who will never give up was plastered all over their faces. It is these faces that motivate me to keep pushing until I can push no longer and then push some more. The only way for a person to get better is for them to push when they have nothing left. It’s ridiculous how much these people, who are only running to further their own experiences, create a big impact on the people who are only watching. I have changed due to this experience, and I will always cherish these experiences and moments I shared with those amazing people. *Mighty Titans Obstacle Course: I participated in the Mighty Titans Obstacle Course for children twice, and even in that small amount of time I grew mentally and physically. I helped children travel safely through the obstacle course by telling them the rules and safety precautions. I connected with the other people who were working with me on the obstacle course. I was able to make new friends with whom I still keep in contact. The Mighty Titans is an organization run by my team’s ex-personal trainer. She created these obstacle courses for the specific purpose of getting children involved in physical activity because physical activity leads to a healthier mindset. It was a true joy for me to see all the children having fun doing something that I helped run. I gained a lot of experience in organization and safety. This allowed me to advance my skills in handling children of all ages. Children are the foundation of the world, and I loved getting a chance to change or impact their lives in some way. *Lady Dragons Basketball Camp at South Oldham High School: I participated in the South Oldham Lady Dragons Basketball Camp as a counselor for two years. During those one week summer sessions, I not only helped further the kids’ abilities in playing basketball, I also helped advance my skills in being able to teach these skills to the people on my team during a game. This camp gave me a chance to study how different types of people react in different situations and how to handle these certain people. Some of the things worked on during the camp are very much like what we as a high school team work on during our everyday practices. Basic skills were the key point in our camp such as; dribbling, shooting, running, and lay-ups. The kids seemed to react well to my methods, which ultimately proves that I am good at working well with people. This camp caused me to assume the role of leader and role-model to the small kids involved in our program, and I have to say that it has made me better for it too. *Singing During the Wedding of Jordan and Missy Cox: I have had the pleasure of singing during the ceremony of my cousin’s wedding. Now this was something that was decided the day before the wedding so I had to learn a whole song A cappella within that short time span and sing it in front of a ton of people some with whom I was unfamiliar. I had to exercise the ability to adjust and the ability to present the desired effect in a certain amount of time. This experience changed the way I look at situations; it also gave me the ability to speak comfortably in front of a crowd. I overcame my nervousness, and I delivered a song that was categorized as beautiful. This has expanded my confidence in more ways than one, such as it has made me believe that I can do things if I have faith, and it also has made me believe that I am a good singer. It took a lot of thinking and decision making to get to where I needed to be for the song, but I made it and I was able to enhance the happiness that was felt throughout the crowd. *Lake Forest Country Club and Golf Course I work currently at the concession stands by the pool at the country club. I take orders and prepare easy made foods for the golfers to snack on through out their game. I usually work 5-6 hour shifts but recently I have been working 7-8 hour shift. working at the club has given me a sense of real responsibility. *Peer Tutor- I currently as a senior Peer Tutor for a seminar class at my school. Seminar is a class where people who do not have enough credits to graduate come to better themselves in all subject and also to obtain these required credits. I tutor kids,all grade (in High School), in everything that could possibly be imagined, such as English, Math, Science, and Social Sciences. As a peer tutor for seminar I have to be well versed in all the core subjects along with other extracurricular subjects.
