Both my parents migrated from Trinidad and Tobago in the 1990s to attend college. The national motto for the nation of Trinidad and Tobago is “Together We Aspire Together We Achieve”. As a first-generation American with deep Caribbean roots, I embrace my parents’ heritage. That is why I use the words “Aspire” and “Achieve” from the motto as my own source of motivation in everything I do, including basketball.
I aspire to play college basketball. I love playing basketball. It brings me joy and has taught me many important lessons e.g. teamwork, leadership, friendship, failure, persistence, and success. I have been playing since I was six years old and have successfully moved from one level to the next. I have moved from clinic, to recreational, to local travel, to regional travel, to middle school, to national travel/AAU, and to high school. I am excited to be at this point in my life where my aspiration to play in college can become a reality.
My parents have taught and showed me the importance and value of education. They are both very successful professionals. My mom is an accountant with an MBA. My dad has a law degree and a PhD (as well as four other degrees) and is a university provost, dean, and professor. I aspire to be as successful as they are, which is why getting a quality education is very important to me. I plan on attending a college or university that will help me achieve both my athletic and academic goals. I am interested in kinesiology, physical therapy, psychology, and neurology. My aspiration is to one day be a professional who helps individuals, including athletes, achieve physical and mental wellness.
I am excited about attending and playing in college and about my future as a professional!
