Personal Statement
I remember being 8 years old and hearing "I am never watching this team." "They need a different coach." "Those girls are not talented." Those few lines are all my team, the Brunswick Lady Cats, have heard for the past 7 years. Over the years we have gotten a new coach, improved as a team and individually, and even had the stands full at one of our 3rd place trophy games. As a freshman playing varsity, and knowing how people felt as I was working as hard as I could on the court, made me feel very infuriated. I wanted to make a change. I wanted to be that team that everyone wanted to watch. I just wanted people to believe in the Brunswick Lady Cats. With that being said, I worked all of my summer before sophomore year. I went to almost every open gym, summer practice, and shootout we had. Some days I dreaded it, but I kept telling myself, "I want to make a change." When I constantly told myself those six words I re-focused and as a sophomore, I became one of the team leaders who my coach could always count on to give 100% with anything and everything he asks of me.
As a three-sport athlete and a straight A student, finding time to improve my skills in this sport is challenging. Although, I learned that when I’m struggling with something school or personal related, I can go to the gym and everything is alright again. The basketball court is my home.
