Hello! My name is Emily Poulas and I am a student at Jefferson Township Highschool in Oak Ridge, NJ. I can truly say that I never feel more myself than when a ball is in my hands. I have been playing basketball for as long as I can remember. I tried out for my school's travel team in fifth grade and was cut. From that moment on, I've never looked back. I started playing AAU in the spring of that year and I have not missed a season since. When tryouts rolled around again the next year, I was cut for a second time. I was devastated and heartbroken, yet I did not give up. I spent countless hours in the gym and rarely missed a workout. Two years later, I could proudly say that I had made my varsity team as a freshman.
This year, my junior year, I was selected to the All-County Team and First Team All-Conference. I finished with 82 made 3-pointers which broke my school's 30-year-old record for 3-pointers in a single season. I am most comfortable at the shooting guard position and am one of the top defenders on my team. I am a scrappy player, never afraid to get on the floor for a loose ball. I am extremely coachable and love to be pushed. I have dedicated an innumerable amount of time to watching film to elevate my game further. I have high standards for myself and strive to be the best I can be.
Off the court, I also participate in soccer and track. I have made varsity for both sports since freshman year as well. Not only do I push myself in sports, but in school as well. Academically, I am a straight-A student, I have achieved high honor roll from the start of my high school career, and I am in multiple honors classes. I received Scholar-Athlete and President awards my freshman year and I am in clubs such as SADD, REBEL, and JTAA.
Basketball has taught me who I am as a person. I am passionate, selfless, resilient, driven, humble, and disciplined. I have a fire inside of me that cannot be put out. All the blood, sweat, and tears were and will continue to be worth it. My path has been rare, but it is only the beginning. Basketball is the greatest love of my life and I am willing to do whatever it takes to succeed.
