Personal Statement
I am a student first and an athlete second. Academically, I am a straight “A” student and have been on the honor roll several times. Athletically, I feel like I have played basketball my entire life but started playing high school athletics as a 7th grader on the JV and Varsity team of one of the best teams in the Twin Cities. My collegiate goal and aspiration is to be a doctor because in the small community I’m from there is huge need but lack of quality medical professionals. You see I care about my community and want my life to positively impact those around me. Some things you should know about my character is that I am very coachable and respectful. This big head is always willing to learn new things and I’m constantly looking for ways to improve. I love basketball and believe that it teaches me life lessons about being a leader and stepping up when I need too. Being a team leader doesn’t only mean that I need to put in the extra work for myself but I am also responsible to push my teammates to be better as well. When I push my teammates to get better and succeed I expect them to do the same for me, It’s not “me” its “we”. To be a successful basketball player you cannot be on the court for yourself, you have to be on it for your team. To be a successful leader I know I have to carry my weight and also be willing to carry extra weight. I don’t only love the game but I love the process and putting in the work. What makes me different is that I’m a student of the books but also a student of the game, I’m always learning and ready to succeed. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” –Philippians 4:13
