Shy'an Cokley '22 Recruiting Profile

I am planning to major in Physical Education. After playing the game of basketball, I plan to coach and teach the sport. A goal of mine is to play in the WNBA because experiencing basketball at all levels will help me in my coaching endeavors. What sets me apart from many other young players is the fact that both of my parents are basketball coaches. I can fit any style or philosophy of coaching because I played for four different coaches in five years and I've been a key player for each of those five years. Every coach that I've played for or against appreciate and love my passion for the game. My dad trains me religiously and always taught me that I need to work to raise the standard of my team and to do it by leading by example. I love to train and practice just as much as playing the game. I've started my high school varsity basketball career as a 7th grader and seen the starting role during my 8th grade year. I also played varsity volleyball starting my 7th grade year and I'm currently a team and regional award winner in both. I probably would be classified as a Swing Guard because I'm very proficient at handling the ball and I'm a lights-out shooter with a quick release.
