I dive because it’s my place to escape from the outside world. Most athletes think that their sport is a chore, but I do my sport because I have fun. I started when I was six years old and here I am wanting to dive more and more. A typical teenager has a lot of free time, but I am always busy with athletics, school, or sports medicine. My typical weekly schedule is diving practice six days a week, one day a week I do strength and conditioning training with a personal trainer at a gym, I go to school where I have six classes and I am a student sports trainer after school. I love being busy. In the future I want to stick with working around athletes. From my own experience with being a diver, I like to work with helping athletes prevent injuries and helping athletes recover when they get injured. As a student sports trainer, I work with different athletics teams at my high school. When an athlete comes up to me with an injury, I have gotten good at being able to tell what is wrong with them. That is from my own experience as a diver my whole life. I understand my body which taught me to understand an athlete’s body and how to take care of it in order to perform better. One day, I will be a sports trainer for a college or professional sports team.
People always tell me that I am amazing to watch or they love watching me dive because I’m fearless doing what I do. Diving off the 10 meter platform makes me feel like I'm flying, as if I’m Spiderman jumping off of tall buildings. Platform to me is better than springboard because I enjoy the feeling of jumping from a high level. It’s easy and fun. I also love the 10 meter platform because there’s almost always no line to wait in during warmups.
Through diving, I’ve been able to travel the country and learn about different places and cities. Most kids at my high school stay local after graduation. Diving has opened up opportunities to attend college outside of my hometown. I know I will face many struggles in life and I need to overcome these obstacles by facing my fears. Diving has taught me how to face fearful situations and not to back down or give up. Learning a new dive is as scary as making an important decision in life. Knowing when it’s ok to try something new and to make a new path for myself, I know I can overcome anything.
