I have been a competitive gymnast since I was 5 years old, reaching Level 7 (current Level 8) at age 12. I switched from gymnastics to diving 2 years ago, and I love it! I know I have not been diving as long as some other recruits, but I use that as motivation to work even harder to improve.
The rest of my diving team is like family, and I really like the combination of team and individual aspects of the sport. In Missouri, boys and girls high school swimming/diving are different seasons. During high school state this year, all of the boys from our club team came to state and held up giant signs cheering us girls on. Being on deck and looking across the pool and seeing my friends waving a sign that said "Sophie, you dawg!" made my day!
In July, I spent two weeks at RipFest Dive Camp and learned a platform diving list. Although I have not had the opportunity to compete on platform yet, I am looking forward to it. Platform is a blast, and I can't wait to learn more dives. Right now, my platform list is:
5 meter: 103b, 201b, 203b, 301b, 401b, 403c, 5231d, 612b
7.5 meter: 103b, 105b, 401b, 403c, 612b
10 meter: 105b, 612b
Working on: Converting my 403c to pike, 107b and 405c off of 10 meter
Even though I've only been diving for two years, I hope very much to be able to compete in college. I hope to find a program where I can continue to improve and contribute to the team. I feel like I just got started, and I don't want to stop!
